5 Ways to Celebrate National Manufacturing Day

The first Friday of October every year has been designated as National Manufacturing Day. That day is set aside to proudly celebrate goods and services made in America. This year, more than ever, we are proud to celebrate American innovation. American manufacturers have led the world in technical development for the past two centuries and have enabled us to unlock new technologies that grow our economy.

Celebrations and activities will continue throughout the month of October as part of Manufacturing Month. There are two main focuses; first is the celebration of US manufacturing and second a focus on manufacturing careers. Thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders. Part of the goal is to educate the public, especially the youth, about the millions of high paying jobs available in the technical and manufacturing fields.

5 Ways to Celebrate National Manufacturing Day

In 2020 National Manufacturing Day and the month to follow hold special meaning as we recognize the resurgence of US Manufacturing and Made in America. With the onset of the pandemic it has become apparent that reestablishing American dominance in the manufacture of strategic and essential items is important. We recognize the need to adjust supply chains and source these from US companies making them in US factories. This is already creating new opportunities, more jobs and renewed investment.

While October is a month to promote the future of manufacturing, there is already much to celebrate in the US manufacturing industry in 2020. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) collects data and metrics about manufacturing and manufacturing and publishes this data in several manufacturing indexes in the United States. Among the reassuring data they have published was the fact that in American manufacturers grew again in August for the fourth straight month. The ISM said its manufacturing index rose to 56% in August from 54.2% in July. Readings over 50% indicate growth.

So, in celebration of all things manufacturing, we came up with a list of things you can do to celebrate this Friday.
